The Plastic Recycling Process

Plastic recycling is a key factor in waste management that allows people to enjoy a variety of goods and services with less processing of raw materials. You’re probably familiar with the sight of recycling bins serving Chicago, but do you know what happens after they haul all of that plastic away?

Watch this video for an introduction to the plastic recycling process. First, the materials are densified into small pieces that are easily moveable. Second, the plastic is mixed and then heated by an extruder. Finally, the heated plastic is compounded into usable pellets. These pellets can then be repurposed into new parts.
