The Science of Building Implosions

Waste management should be safe and environmentally friendly, and sometimes that means more than having the right dumpster rental on hand. When you need to bring down a tall building while protecting the surroundings, implosion might be the way forward. Watch this video to learn about the science of building implosions.

When a building implodes, it’s gravity that does much of the work. Blasters, or the people who do the detonating, will set explosives throughout the building as well as weaken support columns and take out walls that aren’t load-bearing. Then the blasters will ensure that the area around the building has been completely cleared before sounding a siren three times to signal the detonation. When the columns are destroyed, the building will collapse into itself.
